Ian Robinson - Fleetwood Mac Rumours
Mars A System
With AA15W Wedges and Drum Fill
My connection with Ad Lib goes back more than 10 years when I was playing drums in a rock n roll band. Dave Fletcher who was a friend of our guitarist had come along to one of our shows so I took the opportunity to pick his brains. I was having some technical problems with my home studio and Dave sussed it right away. Thanks for that Fletch.
Around the same time I also got to meet fellow drummer Andy Doc at various outdoor gigs we played at where Ad Lib had provided the PA and crew, especially the world famous Liverpool Mathew Street Festival. Ad Lib provided the PA on all the stages around the city and always managed to get a great sound whatever the conditions. And we all know the potential horrors of playing outdoors in the UK. So in 1998 when my current band Rumours of Fleetwood Mac undertook its first tour it was it was great to meet up again with Ad Lib especially as this was our first tour for Flying Music and the sound had to be right. Steve Cole (Coley) was our FOH engineer, so it was.
Over the past eight years RFM has toured annually for Flying Music visiting major theatres throughout the UK & Ireland from medium size venues seating 750 people to the Waterfront in Belfast seating around 3000 people during which time Ad Lib have always provided us with superb coverage both FOH and onstage.
Rumours of Fleetwood Mac is basically a bunch of good friends having a great time working together and whichever Ad Lib crew joins us on tour they always manage to integrate with us and our backline guys and the whole thing just glides along like a well oiled machine.
In the spring of 2007 RFM is on the road again with a 30 – 40 date UK tour and we look forward to meeting up with the Ad Lib guys again. I’m just hoping that Steve Coley has sorted out his flatulence problems. Just because I’m nearly 60 everyone assumes I’m to blame for the odious smells in the green room and I know its Coley. Honest!!
Incidentally, I still have problems when I buy new gear for my home studio but not to worry Dave Fletch is only a phone call away and he’s always willing to spend time with me to sort the problem. By the way, what is this earth loop nonsense all about??
